Marieke Whitteker is a high-powered American businesswoman who travels to Amsterdam on business but ends up confronting her family's past of which she had known little. Marieke visits the Rijksmuseum where she'd gone years before with her parents. She recalls a painting of a beautiful young woman dressed in blue, a portrait from one hundred years ago. Then, Marieke walks through Amsterdam's antique district and is drawn to an elegant old wardrobe and finally to an expensive and very distinctive ring filled with diamonds that she impulsively buys. She is attracted to the shop owner, Clemens Van der Mehr, and his mother, and agrees to dine with Clemens. And thus begins this most fascinating story of Marieke and her English ancestor, Marlene, who is forced into marriage with cruel, brutal Paul Van der Mehr, but survives, finds true love with an Italian Count, and begins a successful business from the ruins of what remains of Paul Van der Mehr's family company. Marieke delves into the past, reading old documents and records, finally finding old notebooks of Marlene's that
tell of her children's lives through the years up to World War II. Marieke knows how she is descended from Marlene and what happened to all the family members, but will she share her knowledge or keep it to herself?
"Ring go Round" is a brilliantly written, organized and edited novel of romance, family history, and hidden secrets that readers everywhere will enjoy. The characters are believable and interact well with each other. The twists and turns in the plot line are phenomenal as modern day Marieke seeks out hidden family secrets. Dialogue is excellent and believable and in this reviewer's opinion, "Ring go Round" is on its way to becoming a classic.
