Rosetta Gnome is a fantasy adventure novel written by Ashley Parker Owens. After escaping life as a slave working in a food garden for ogre overseers, Wil, a gnome, flees to freedom alongside his loyal sidekick Roddy, an obese rabbit. Hiding from predators and spies of the Gnome Council, Wil and Roddy stumble upon a group of gnomes who live their lives on their own terms. Reluctantly, the group allows Wil into their family, but not everyone is a fan of Roddy. Soon, Wil discovers his newfound friends to be vagrants and thieves, with a couple of them having plans of rebellion against the ogres. When Wil unexpectedly finds himself as the leader of the group, he is faced with a moral dilemma that will decide all of their fates.
A fantasy adventure drama with a unique premise, Rosetta Gnome is an enthralling read for any fantasy lover. If you're a fan of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn, you'll love Rosetta Gnome. Author Ashley Parker Owens weaves an intricate tale about a group of runaway slaves who find kinship amongst one another in their bid for survival. The plot moves quickly in ways that you never see coming. The characters are colorful and full of life, with distinct personalities that set each apart. Although I enjoyed them all, Wil, Roddy, and Meer were my personal favorites of the bunch. Meer's deadpan delivery while quoting Sun Tzu's The Art of War was one of the highlights of the book. If an adventure fantasy tale involving talking gnomes, rabbits, and cats sounds intriguing to you, don't miss this one.
