It’s a sunny summer day, and the neighborhood feels happy, but Rover the dog doesn’t feel that way. He enjoys painting, but nothing he creates looks good to him. After messing up again and again, he starts doubting himself. He even wonders if there’s anything he’s actually good at. So Rover goes for a little walk and ends up bumping into his friends. They all have very different talents, such as baking and playing music. He thinks about when he tried those same things and struggled. Comparing himself to them makes him feel even worse. Soon, Rover begins to question his path and wonders if he should start over. Will he ever learn to see his own talents clearly? Read Steven and Jeanelle Teves's Rover Starts Over to find out.
Rover Starts Over by Steven and Jeanelle Teves is a children's picture book that focuses on self-worth, patience, and learning from one's mistakes. The illustrations by Steven Teves really add warmth to the story, bringing Rover's world to life. The story uses key moments, like the conversations between Rover and his friends, to reveal his feelings of self-doubt. The writing is uncomplicated, making it easy for kids to follow the message all the way through without difficulty. I love how the authors include that Rover's friends possess their own talents. I think this is very important because it reminds us that everyone shines in their own way. I recommend Rover Starts Over to children, parents, and teachers who want a heartwarming story about believing in oneself. Very highly recommended.
