Rowley Peters and the Lumberjack Ghost is a children's mystery adventure by Carol L. Paur. Rowley Peters's anxiety is through the roof after her parents take her on a camping trip to the Black Hawk State Park near Lake Michigan. Whether it's spiders, smelly toilet pits, ghosts, or dead frogs, everything she feared about camping seems to come true. Her only solace is that her best friend, Huey Lewandowski, also joins their camping site with her own family. Soon, however, an escalating chain of events involving a mysterious frog lady, a fraud ranger, and the lumberjack Chicken McGee show leads Rowley and Huey onto two separate paths. Can these two friends unite and get to the bottom of the criminal conspiracy? Or will they fail, allowing the culprits to roam free?
Packed with mystery, suspense, and intrigue, Rowley Peters and the Lumberjack Ghost is a fascinating mystery adventure tale that both preteens and middle schoolers will savor with relish. The plot is fast-paced and full of unexpected twists and turns that young suspense/mystery readers are bound to love. Author Carol L. Paur doesn't waste a single paragraph and hooks the reader in from the very first page with a captivating story and a cast of likable characters. At the heart of the narrative is the friendship between Rowley and Huey. The friends have different personalities, but they complement each other so well. Rowley is simply adorable while Huey does her best to boost Rowley's confidence. I think many young readers will resonate with them. All in all, it's a fantastic adventure yarn for children!
