Sacred Erotica is a collection of poems ideally suited to readers that want to connect their spiritual or soulful journey with the physical intimacy they share with another human. Don Angelo pens beautiful words that create powerful images, allowing the reader to choose the extent of emotional connection and impact through the experiences he shares. There is much discussion of chakras, heaven, souls, and the ‘glory of God’s matchmaking’ which is juxtaposed upon vivid sexual situations and erotic language. Divided into four parts, Sacred Erotica starts with “Sensuous Foreplay” and ends with “Orgasmic Union,” traversing everything in between in this open and erotic collection. Things start out innocently enough and move on quickly. In earlier poems, like “I Hunger,” Angelo likens caressing his lover’s hair to a harp, while in “From The Moment I Saw Your Eyes” he emphasizes different scenes - her eyes, touch, smile - each changing him as his life “became frenzied with love.” Throughout the collection, there is a common thread used by Angelo that “We relish and worship the divine by relishing and worshipping each other.”
Don Angelo creates sexual tension in his “manifesto” of passion in Sacred Erotica. My favorite passage is from “The Wine of Our Chemistry” where he invites readers to “drink the wine … as it brews in the space between us, getting to know one another, between the intimacy of soul recognition, exploring the synchronicity between us.” Every reader will take away a different scene, be enticed to travel more deeply into intimacy, and connect to the universe through in sync chakras, ‘soulgasms’ and quite possibly 'lighting up the sky like the Milky Way’ as a result. In this book of pleasure, Sacred Erotica depicts the wonderful sacred union of the divine masculine and feminine - the latter spirit inspiring this work.
