Sakhyam: Igniting a Movement by Preethi Srinivas is a touching and emotional story that examines the relationship between humans and animals in a heartwarming tale of young Rohan and his bond with a neighborhood cow. This novel is set against the cultural backdrop of India and addresses themes of empathy, self-discovery, and animal welfare. Rohan exemplifies the innocence and purity of youth, which contrasts starkly against the often grim realities animals face in society. Through his eyes, we explore the various dimensions of human-animal relationships and the inherent empathy that can flourish even in the unlikeliest friendships.

The story is a clarion call for kindness toward animals, advocating for a shift in perspective regarding animal rights and welfare. It challenges readers to confront their own beliefs and consider the impact of their actions on the lives of animals. The narrative is filled with cultural references and descriptions that paint a vivid picture of the setting, making it easy for readers to connect with the story. Preethi Srinivas’s writing evokes a range of emotions from joy to sadness, guiding readers on a journey that is both educational and deeply moving. Sakhyam is a beautifully written book that entertains and imparts valuable lessons about compassion, understanding, and coexistence. It does have text and image content that some readers might find disturbing, and the author advises reader discretion. Sakhyam is likely too graphic for children and young adults, but it is an excellent book for adult readers passionate about animal welfare and human empathy.
