Scrubby's PBnJ by Mike J. Kizman is an engaging and gripping Christian novel about an ambitious young business owner who experiences many surprising, life-changing moments. It's July 4th in the lovely town of Schooner Lake, where Brynn "Scrubby" Green, the owner of a little peanut butter and jam restaurant named Scrubby's PBnJ, and her friend and business partner are busy working. Brynn isn't interested, like her nonbeliever friend, in meeting new guys, yet she meets one at the fireworks show. Dewey is an EMT. While contemplating and implementing changes at her restaurant, Brynn meets with Dewey a few times, and their newly formed connection takes a direction Brynn didn't anticipate. However, after her business partner shares some news, other changes are about to take place, and Brynn's life and business will never be the same. Still, Brynn wonders whether Dewey will remain in her life. She fears he might dump her, as her other ex-boyfriends did.
Scrubby's PBnJ by Mike J. Kizman is an easy-to-read, fun, and clean romance that beautifully captures small-town charm, new friendships, faith, change, dreams that come true, and unexpected love, with unforgettable food and atmosphere. I enjoyed reading how Brynn and Dewey's relationship unfolded, how they interacted, and especially how Brynn handled all the changes in her personal life and business. This heartfelt and wonderful story will appeal to a young adult audience, slow-burning or clean-romance readers, and those who enjoy small-town settings, realistic characters, or an independent female protagonist. Young women with insecurities and undesirable high school nicknames will definitely resonate with Brynn's story and learn from it.
