Author Biography

A Central Virginia native, Mary Burton's Richmond roots run as deep as the nation’s. A New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Mary also resided in Alexandria, the setting of her new novels SENSELESS and MERCILESS. A graduate of Virginia’s Hollins University, she worked in marketing before leaving her job to begin writing. Her first novel was published in 2000.

Burton went on to write sixteen romance novels and novellas before entering the world of multiple murderers and their motives with Senseless, Merciless, Dying Scream, Dead Ringer, I’m Watching You, and the novella Christmas Past,included in the NY Times best selling anthology Silver Bells.

Her commitment to realism has led to eye-opening interviews with law enforcement, to forensic seminars and to the firing range. A graduate of the Henrico County Citizens Police Academy and the Richmond FBI Citizen’s Academy, she has participated in Sisters in Crime’s Forensic University program. Recently, she attended seminars on autopsies, undercover work and the motives behind murder at the Writers Police Academy in Jamestown, North Carolina.

Mary is an avid baker and an accomplished cook. When not writing or in the kitchen, she practices yoga, enjoys her miniature dachshunds Buddy and Bella, volunteers at the University of Richmond’s Culinary Arts Program, attends professional conferences, and visits with readers and booksellers.

Mary Burton is now at work on her next novel set in Alexandria.

Ten years ago, Eva Rayburn was raped and branded. She remembers being pulled from the burning sorority house where Josiah Cross died. She was accused of murder, and her sorority sisters testified against her. To protect her sisters, she confesses to the murder but remembers nothing.

Present day: Eva is released from prison and returns to her home town. One by one the girls who testified against Eva are found murdered. Each body has a star shape branded into their flesh. All the clues point to Eva. Detective Garrison is investigating the case. As he goes over the old case files, he believes Eva was innocent, and now he must try and stop this “Senseless” killing before there are any more victims one of them being Eva.

“Senseless” is a chilling thriller that will keep the reader glued to their seat just waiting to see what happens next with an ending that comes as a surprise. An excellent plot, a psychotic killer, and crime scenes that will keep the most enthused reader of suspense satisfied till the end and characters that are easy to connect with very easily. Recommended for all readers of the suspense genre. You can’t go wrong with Mary Burton’s “Senseless.”
