"Severed Ties" is the story of childhood friends Frankie, Sandra and Candice. The three girls are interested in the mystical and are into tarot, astral projection and communication through dreams. When the parents of Candice divorces, she escapes to the big city. She gets involved with the wrong guy, Rock, and the friendship is tested by the ugliness of a world mired in drugs and prostitution. Frankie and Sandra, with their amateur mystical powers, try to save their friend. They are confronted with a job that seems to be insurmountable. With the help of Calvin, Frankie and Sandra find Candice but can they still save her from the clutches of the dark inner city?
The 88-page novel "Severed Ties" is an easy and enjoyable read. Angie Skelhorn knows how to keep her reader's attention. This is a story of friendship that is put to a severe test. When Frankie and Sandra learn about the plight of their friend Candice, they can only rely on their knowledge of mystical powers. Putting matters into their young hands, they venture to the big city without knowing what awaits them there. The plot develops in an easy pace and I think the story is inspiring, especially to young readers. And for those who have lost a loved one, "Severed Ties" can be a consolation, in that it tells us that some ties simply cannot be severed.
