Shadows of the Night by Richard Dawes is a thriller of occult proportions. Dirk Hammond is a private detective. He receives a letter asking him to visit Baron Cardula at his mansion late at night. The Baron is fearful that he will be the next in a wave of nasty deaths sweeping across San Francisco, and he wants to hire Dirk to find out who is doing this. Despite some misgivings, Dirk takes the $50,000 on offer and, with the help of the Baron’s daughter, sets out to track down a murderer. They get more than they bargained for when they find themselves facing a pack of vampires, blood-thirsty devil worshippers who will stop at nothing. Evil is all around and Dirk must beat it to survive and to save the city of San Francisco
Shadows of the Night by Richard Dawes was a captivating thriller, one that wasn’t too serious. It had the element of fun as well as being action packed. Richard Dawes has mastered the art of bringing a story to life, of breathing life into characters that are fully developed and drawing the reader in to the extent that you can almost feel yourself living the story. A mix of the occult, true horror and private–eye story, this is a real masterpiece, and with plenty of twists and turns you won’t be bored and you won’t want to put it down. It’s a real roller coaster read and the finale is a crashing end to a truly incredible story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.
