Shielding the Tiny Target by Deena Alexander is a good addition to the LIS lineup. The story introduces readers to a widowed mother, Ava, and her toddler, Missy. From the start, this book kicks off with a bang, and the action keeps going! When an intruder breaks into Ava's home, she calls 911, hoping they will arrive in time to protect her daughter. Responding to the call, firefighter Jack Moretta instantly finds himself drawn to the pair. His protective instincts kick in as he spends more time with the spunky young mother and her adorable daughter. Their story continues as Ava realizes the danger from her past is back, and someone is out to silence her. Knowing her husband's death is likely involved, and the police were in on it, she is afraid to tell anyone. When Jack steps in as their protector, can she trust him enough to share what she knows?
I was excited to read Shielding the Tiny Target. I was impressed by how quickly I grew to love these characters! I adored the community setting in this book. The support Ava finds when her life is thrown into chaos is heartfelt and dear. The lovely people of this small town on Long Island make the story more special. I loved seeing their roles in helping support Ava and Missy. Deena Alexander’s writing in Shielding the Tiny Target is well done, and I quickly found I couldn't put the book down. The high-stakes action, interesting characters, and beautiful faith and healing themes are woven together beautifully to create a wonderful story.
