"Silver Linings" will reach out to young adult readers and draw them in. Lucy Mackensie and her father Mac (please don't call him by his first name, Benjamin) have lived in many U.S. cities. Mac is an actor and a teacher. He has been a stay at home dad for over a decade but has recently taken a job at Pearson. Lucy's mother and Mac's wife, Elise, now a doctor, leaves them behind as she goes off to Africa to work off her educational grant. As the story begins, Mac has a position teaching at Pearson School in Minnesota. Lucy becomes close friends with wealthy Nadine Brentwood; while they live a very different lifestyle their bond is very strong and they are soon BFFs. After Mac loses his teaching position at Pearson the Brentwoods come to the aid of Mac and Lucy in several ways. Bobby Brentwood, Nadine's brother, gradually becomes Lucy's first love interest but will their differences in lifestyle come between them?

Mac accepts a teaching position at Elizabethtown; the town has a bit of a mystique to it, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Lisa Maddock's characters are believable and their everyday dialogue enhances the story. "Silver Linings" is an incredible tale that will touch readers' hearts and minds.

This is the first installment of a new series. This reader can hardly wait to see what will happen next. Elizabethtown was merely a backdrop in this story but it has whetted my appetite to learn more about the town.
