What a great read! That's what I thought when I finished reading Singleish by debut author Elizabeth Butts. Follow the story of Ashley MacKillop, a woman who's got it all together. The boyfriend, the house, the good, if not so interesting job. Everything is pretty perfect in her orderly and organized life. That is, until her boyfriend tells her he needs a break. And maybe not just a break, but an end. When a group of her friends convinces her to start a blog and go on adventures so she has something to blog about, Ashley agrees to give it a try, even if it was in a moment influenced by alcohol. The blog and the adventures related to it might turn Ashley's life upside down, but in the end will she learn who she really is?
I so enjoyed Singleish. I was surprised to learn that author Elizabeth Butts is a first time novelist; she writes like an author with much more experience. She has done a great job at creating characters that her readers will connect with, relate to, and will continue to think about after well after they've finished the book. If that isn't the hallmark of a great writer, I don't know what is. When I started Singleish, I intended to read just a few chapters and then turn in for the night. Well, I couldn't do that, I just had to keep reading until the end. In fact, the only suggestion I would have for readers, besides being sure to pick up this book, is to give yourself the time to read it from start to finish, you'll love it that much. Any reader who loves chick lit, women's fiction, or just a great read would love Singleish. I will certainly be keeping my eye out for the next work by author Elizabeth Butts. This promising new author has an incredibly bright future, and if her next offering is anything like Singleish it will certainly be on her readers' must-read list!
