Sometimes the Earth Shakes by Jeff Pelton is an educational and fun book for children. Best friends Kaya and Freya are separated when Kaya and her family move far away. This doesn't stop the two of them from being friends, though; they find other ways to talk to each other, like using the internet. One day, Kaya is talking to Freya about how she saw her dad loading groceries into their garage, and how she found it strange. When Kaya questions her dad, he tells her it's their earthquake emergency supply. Kaya had learned about earthquakes at school and knew the importance of what to do if one happened. Kaya expects one to happen with each day that passes, until finally, it does, leaving Kaya terrified. How will she handle her first-ever earthquake? Find out in this book.

In Sometimes the Earth Shakes, Jeff Pelton has created a great book to educate children about earthquakes. His writing is professional, educational, and most importantly, fun. From start to finish, I was engaged with the characters and the storyline. Children will find his words easy to read, or follow along with. The illustrations are eye-catching and fit perfectly within the book. I have never experienced an earthquake, but if I ever do, I'll now know how to handle one, thanks to Jeff and his knowledge. I hope to read more from Jeff in the future to see what else he has to teach us. Keep up the great work, Jeff, and all the best for your next creation.
