Bible study is an important practice for anyone trying to develop and maintain a positive Christian attitude. With many different approaches for understanding the word of God, Songs of Deliverance by Debra Griffin Mitchell offers a fresh, straight-forward guide for identifying examples of deliverance. Debra Griffin Mitchell defines deliverance as ‘rescue from danger, defeat or suffering; release from bondage; relief or freedom from dread or fear’. She also asserts that we all need it and provides definite biblical evidence of God’s care for His people. Clearly comparing what biblical personages were delivered from and delivered to, Songs of Deliverance demonstrates the power of prayer, faith and repentance. Even when the final result of prayer is death, the soul is better off when it belongs to one of God’s faithful. A sure place in heaven is a small price to pay for continuing to praise God and live by Christ’s example in the face of the evil and distractions in today’s world.

Arranged in thirteen insightful, easy to follow and inspirational chapters, Songs of Deliverance begins with songs and prayers from the Old Testament, moving up through the New Testament and even those used by the early Church. Each chapter is clearly designed for a class or individuals to follow to appreciate the depth and complexity of the stories and events presented in Scripture. Topics to think about and discuss are spread throughout the presentation of the songs and an application of the lesson to everyday life concludes each chapter. This text is well researched and extensive footnotes and the citation of sources are included. Debra Griffin Mitchell has taken key sections of the Bible and made them easily accessible to students of any age.
