Steve Savage, Bounty Hunter: The Beginning of a Bounty Hunter is a short book by Chris Smith with a great big bang. I was hooked from the first page and am anxiously awaiting the next installment. Steve Savage is a happy and contented man, living on his ranch with his wife and child until the fateful day when his herd is stolen and one of his trusted hands is hurt. When the sheriff has no success in finding the outlaws, Steve and his cousins Ty and Tucker set out to catch up with them and get back his animals. Steve and his group find themselves faced with many struggles on the road as they follow the trail. They are forced to partake in a shoot-out, spend time in jail, and so much more.
As a western cowboy genre fan, I really fell in love with Steve; he had it all – personality, drive, and intelligence. It was amazing to me to follow his transformation from a rancher to a bounty hunter over a short period of time and I know that he will now follow that path in (I hope) many more books. Steve Savage, Bounty Hunter would be an awesome TV show with him chasing down a new gang every week. Chris Smith has created a cast of characters that have a long future ahead of them. If you like a good ole cowboy story, then I urge you not to pass up Steve Savage, Bounty Hunter. It is a top-notch hit.
