Sugar: A Princess Pit Bull Finds Her Family, written by Barbara Freeman and illustrated by Caitlin Welsh, is a sweet children’s book about a puppy and one that owners of pit bulls will not want to miss out on. Sadie Sue is the proud mother of five pit bull puppies, four males and the runt of the litter which is a female. Princess looks just like her mother, Sadie Sue, and is a sweet puppy. She quickly becomes the leader of the puppies. Princess looks out for her brothers and is excited when each of them is adopted and taken to their new homes. Princess and Sadie Sue are afraid that Princess will not be taken to a home as she is the runt of the litter. However, Michael, a young man, who helps out at the shed has a special bond with Princess and helps her dream come true.
This is such a charming tale, filled with beautiful illustrations. Barbara Freeman has done a wonderful job writing a story filled with such vivid details and her love for this pet just emanates from the pages. I fell in love with this book on the very first page as Barbara's words created a beautiful and inviting scene. The illustrations by Caitlin Welsh fit in perfectly with the story and they are very well done. This book would be the perfect gift for owners of pit bulls and also for those who will soon be adopting one. I love the way the book ends as well with the facts about pit bulls. I learned many new things about them. Children will love this book as it is beautiful and also educational.
