In Surviving the Truth by Sharon Monroe, Laura traveled from Aspen Falls, Wyoming, to Sinclair, Kansas, twice annually to see her younger sister, Susan. In early May, Laura received a call that her father, Andy, had died. While going through Andy's study, Laura discovered a photo that triggered forgotten memories about Susan, which she would prefer to keep buried. Overwhelmed with grief for her father, Laura remained home while James took their dog, Jo-Jo, for a hike to Arapahoe, assuring her he would return in about two hours. However, James and Jo-Jo did not come back from the hike, prompting the police, along with outside help, to search for them. As Laura attempts to cope with her father's death and her husband's disappearance, hidden family secrets lead her to understand that her childhood held more than she initially realized.

Surviving the Truth by Sharon Monroe captivated me right from the beginning. It was filled with sorrow, deep emotions, and suspense. This book was an emotional read, and the chapters transitioned smoothly into one another. I found reading it enjoyable, as it held my focus the whole time. The quest for James kept me anxiously anticipating news, just like Laura. The writing style was engaging, allowing me to easily immerse myself in Laura's life. The characters were intricately developed and relatable. Laura's journey of self-discovery led her to confront painful truths from her past. The story was beautifully written, and Laura's grief was depicted with outstanding sensitivity. The conclusion was utterly surprising, completely unlike anything I could have imagined.
