Surya and Diya: An Indian Love Story by Nina Kedar is an exquisite collection of love poems that speaks about two lovers, Surya and Diya, the joys and thrills of their love and relationship. The poems ponder on the various stages of love, starting from the initial stages to the culmination in commitment. The poems are written from the narrator's viewpoint which switches from male to female. Set in India, the poems have an esoteric vibe which makes them ingenious and unique in content. It is more like a story put into verse which will keep readers enthralled till the last poem with its contents, theme and vivid imagery.
All the poems are exquisite and readers can see a beautiful love story unfolding slowly through the eyes of the narrators. The language is rich and detailed. The poet's word play is infectious and she paints beautiful images using words. The poems are original and they flow seamlessly with wonderful visuals that pull readers into the scenes, emotions and moments. The poet captures the purity and ecstasy of love through these verses in a sequential way, giving a continuity to the story of the lovers. The poems have tones of raw passion and sensuality that have been very aesthetically presented by the poet. Readers will feel the emotions of the lovers, and all the poems are charming. They capture the innocence, urgency and dreams of two lovers looking forward to being together.
