Terror Holiday by Simon Guest is a thrilling short story about a family on holiday in extreme circumstances. Caught in a military coup, Simon Tomkins and his family experience a holiday from hell. In the past, they have had delightful holidays on the Turkish coast. This time, Simon and his wife, Barbara, were looking forward to taking their two young daughters to Istanbul. The flight over had been pleasant and uneventful. Nothing negative happened to indicate that anything untoward was in their future. They were graciously received at their hotel and, after checking in, they had gone sightseeing at local palaces. The exceptional heat drained them, and they returned to the hotel for a short nap before dinner. After a delicious meal, Simon and Barbara surprised the girls with a boat cruise up the Bosphorus.

Here is where their vacation took a turn for the worst and became a nightmare. While they were viewing the incredible sights, the Turkish military had staged a coup. With helicopters and bullets flying over their heads, they made their way back to the hotel. The military had blocked the two bridges out of Istanbul. Their exit from Turkey had been blocked. Unable to leave, they holed up in their hotel, waiting for the embassy to contact them. Will they get out of Turkey alive and unharmed ?

Terror Holiday is an exciting short story by Colin Guest, an Englishman who has lived in Turkey for over twenty-five years. This is a gripping fiction story about the coup attempt in Turkey in July of 2016. This novella is a breath-taking account of that historical event. I loved the accuracy of the details and was gratified to see it from the perspective of someone who was there. The story is awe inspiring and I recommend it to everyone who loves modern history in a suspenseful fictional setting.
