Thank God I Died by Jane A. Chandler is a heartbreaking story. All throughout Jane’s life, she was abused by those that should have been protecting her. Jane was able to block out the things that happened to her, causing her to forget. When she started having uncontrollable fear and anxiety, she began to remember little pieces of her past.

I know that writing Thank God I Died was hard, but also a little healing for Jane. It took great courage to do this and to begin facing her fears. Jane does not go into great detail about the abuse that she went through, but there is enough detail provided so that the reader knows what happened. The abuse that happened to her was horrifying. Some have one person they fear. Jane has her whole family. It is sad that Jane really did die, multiple times, and still no one helped her. I would never talk to my family again if something like this happened. I hope that this book will open people’s eyes and encourage them to question a child’s behavior instead of shunning or ignoring them.

Not many books leave me speechless, but Thank God I Died did. Reading what Jane went through has made me more sensitive to the way that people act. I will now and forever question if they are okay. I’m sorry that Jane went through what she did. I find it amazing and inspiring that she is as healthy as she is. I wish her all the best and hope she continues to heal. This story was heartbreaking, but also very informative.
