In a great first book in what appears to be a very promising new series, The Bad Luck Curse: The Kafka Legacy, Book One by author Jason Flanigan, readers will be treated to a story that will grab them from the very first page. Follow the story of our protagonist, 11-year-old James, whose magical abilities are just beginning as he lives what appears to be a very unlucky life. In fact, James is living with a curse that has been inherited down his family line. But James is determined that he will not just accept his fate, he's willing to do whatever he can to change his future and that of his future family members. With his two friends helping him, and his new pet, a were-parakeet, James embarks on a true adventure of a lifetime.
Wow! Just wow! I so enjoyed The Bad Luck Curse! This is a truly wonderful entry into the world of children's fiction. Fun, adventurous, and thrilling in places, this book is one that I can see many children and young adults really sinking their teeth into. I'm a long way from a child or young adult, and I could hardly put this book down, it is simply that engaging. Author Jason Flanigan has done a great job in creating wonderful characters that will stick with his readers long after the book is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I'm not sure what is. I highly recommend The Bad Luck Curse, and look forward eagerly for the next installment in this excellent new series for children!
