The Bane Bath Salts by Cheryl Holloway is a heart-breaking yet eye-opening story of a teenager who slowly slips into the grip of a lethal type of chemical dubbed 'Bath Salts.' Driven by a hunger for fun and thrills, Hannah finds herself slowly sinking into drug abuse with her long-time best friend, Eve. As they sidestep their parents’ watchfulness, they quickly turn to the drug to ease the amount of pressure and stress from school. On top of marijuana and alcohol, this new drug continues to kill more and more teenagers each year with statistics continuously on the rise. With deadly symptoms such as hallucinations and increased heart rate, including long-term effects such as schizophrenia and other forms of mental illnesses, 'Bath Salts' is fast becoming a killer drug.
Cheryl Holloway’s book, The Bane Bath Salts, is short but really compelling. The book is a must-read for everyone, especially parents and teenagers. As I read Hannah’s and Eve’s stories, my heart broke at the pain inflicted on the victims of drug abuse as well as the parents involved. The book contains a strong theme regarding the effects of this new drug called ‘Bath Salts,’ with a clear message to any impending user to stay completely away from the drug due to the obvious dangers of its abuse. The Bane Bath Salts illustrates the harrowing effects of the drug and what causes teenagers to turn to drug abuse in the first place. From peer pressure to school-related stress, I realized how susceptible teenagers are to abusing drugs. Cheryl Holloway reminded me of the importance of guidance and support for today’s teenagers.
