Nick is a very curious young man and wants to know why many things happen the way they do. Why can't animals talk, or why are fire trucks red? Sometimes he even has dreams with the word "why." Some of his questions are reasonable, like why he has to eat broccoli or why he has to go to bed early. His questions are not limited to his family members. He also engages the nice lady at the bakery. Most of the time, people try their best to answer Nick. Other times, they shrug, smile, or outright tell Nick to ask someone else. The Boy Who Asks A Gazillion Whys by Barbara Pinke is an interesting read that shows the curiosity of children as they grow up. I loved how the book demonstrates that curiosity helps children learn new things. The message of the need to get information from trusted sources like museums and scientists will also resonate with many readers. The language used is appropriate for the target audience, which makes the work effective in passing on the intended message. Barbara also ensured events flowed systematically, which ensured no room for confusion for the young reader. All readers will also appreciate the amazing narration, which adds to the overall beauty of the work. Luis Peres's illustrations were captivating and helped capture my imagination. I look forward to reading something else by Barbara Pinke.
