Nic Minnella's The Cat Who Chased Ghosts is a captivating mystery that will appeal to young readers and all those who love felines. Robert and Catherine Thompson inherit an old house with an odd reputation from Robert's great-aunt, Wilhelmina. Their son, twelve-year-old Timmy, is glad to get an unexpected pet, Wilhelmina's orange tabby cat, Whiskers. But his overly protective mother doesn't want any cats in the house. She is unsure whether they should stay there because the house is in bad condition. Strange noises bother Timmy and his parents at night. Timmy's new schoolmates, Jasper and Andrew, tell him that his new home is nicknamed 'Haunted Hall.' A local legend says that a young girl went missing after entering it many years ago. What if her ghost wanders there, trying to find her missing dog? The friends decide to investigate at their own risk. After Jasper goes missing too, Timmy's only hope to help him is Whiskers and his alleged ability to repel the darkness.
The Cat Who Chased Ghosts by Nic Minnella is a gripping read. Minnella offers young readers unforgettable adventures and a beguiling paranormal mystery to solve. Cats play a crucial part in the narrative, and the author's understanding of their whimsical yet charming nature shines through. Whiskers is not just the pet of an eccentric old lady or a lonely young boy. Whiskers has a mesmerizing personality and shows kindness. Timmy, Jasper, and their friend Louisa are inventive, brave, and responsible. Curious like all children their age, they learn an important lesson during their extraordinary escapade. This story also has elements of mild horror. It is spooky enough to attract children's attention, yet it never gets disturbing or too scary. This compelling tale with a dose of humor has bewildering twists. Parental love and readiness to help someone in danger are among other noteworthy themes Minnella invites us to explore. I highly recommend this impeccably edited book, which I couldn't put down until the last chapter.
