The Cheeky Capybara and the Emerald Boa by Kateryna Dronova centers on a quiet mangrove forest that gets turned upside down one afternoon. Ramiro, an elderly pelican, drops out of the sky in a complete panic to warn the animals about a big green presence up in the tree canopy. The animal community plans a group search to stay safe, but Tito the capybara lets his vanity get the better of him. Announcing that he is the bravest animal in the whole forest, he walks away from his friends to handle the intruder by himself. Tito’s stubbornness backfires when he meets the silent boa constrictor up close and has to run away as fast as he can. How will he keep his beautiful home safe? Does he finally learn that some situations are just too big for one animal to face alone?
Kateryna Dronova’s The Cheeky Capybara and the Emerald Boa is a delightful children’s storybook that captures the easy, friendly energy of an extraordinary animal tale. It treats the unusual wildlife of the South American wetlands with a sense of wonder, turning an everyday lesson about helpfulness into a very sweet moral story. Dara Karei’s artwork is a major highlight, packed with cute animal faces and soft forest textures that give kids plenty to explore while they read. The overall setting is kept playful and cozy, so Tito’s quick run-in with the snake never turns into anything genuinely frightening for young readers. I love how Dronova has Tito’s mistake speak for itself, reminding kids how good it is to share an important task with friends and ask for help when necessary. Families will love reading this tale aloud to their little ones who are learning that life is always better when you share your days with people who care. Very highly recommended.
