The Chronicles of the Virago by Michael and Misty Bialys is about Makenna, the protector. She is thirteen years old and must protect her twin siblings Emi and Noah from evil forces. The twins are destined to save the world by spreading a message of hope. Makenna’s dad’s soul is captured by a souler and taken to hell. A fairy named Marigold sends Stephen and Sam to recover his soul. Stephen and Sam must travel through hell to retrieve the soul while Makenna stays on earth to protect her siblings. To keep her mother from worrying about her husband, a worm is changed into Makenna's dad. Fairies stand in as doppelgangers for Makenna’s friends while they are on their mission. Nobody will realize that the dad, Stephen, and Sam are not on earth.

The Chronicles of the Virago by Michael and Misty Bialys features fairies and supernatural creatures. I was transported to a magical and supernatural world. The story was entertaining and at times scary. The pace was steady as I kept turning the pages. Some historical events were explained, and I learned a lot from them. The characters were excellently handled. They were given names that suited them and their personalities. It was fun learning the names. My favorite character was Fluffy, the cheerful earthworm, who was able to lighten dark situations. Makenna loves her siblings, and it is an honor for her to protect them. The story is written superbly. The characters and events were described in detail. I did not need much imagination to be part of this supernatural world.
