The Clever Hen, by Saragine François, is a delightful and colorful tale for children. The book has beautiful drawings, full of bright colors and charm. The story teaches a great lesson about helping each other and being nice to everyone. Children will love to see the pictures and listen to the tale of animals that behave like people.

Miss Cleever is an educated hen and she likes to make sure that all the animals on the farm know it. Her eyeglasses and her cart full of books is a great hint. She is usually too busy to help anyone else or to be friendly with the other animals. Pretty soon, there are hurt feelings all over the yard.

One day, Miss Cleever has the surprise of her life when 4 of her eggs hatch all at once and she knows nothing about chicks. Her little chicks are everywhere and she becomes overwhelmed with it all. She tries to ask for help from the same animals she hurt before, and each one of them plays the same trick she played on them. She feels all alone and realizes how badly she had behaved with her friends.

I enjoyed The Clever Hen tale and the colorful images within the pages. I recommend it for any home or pre-school library. I am sure this book could become a favorite for mothers, grandmothers, babysitters, and children alike. The artist's beautiful illustrations accompany a great tale by the author. Great job.
