The Cloud by Diana Hockley is a fictional short story. The story begins with a cloud hovering over Las Vegas. A group of idealist is gathered in the cloud of ectoplasm and they ponder on what will be the destruction of the city. Some of the inhabitants of the cloud worry that the cloud will not only kill the wretched citizens, but also the innocent ones. So an argument ensues. Are all of the human race cold and do they lack remorse? With lack of evidence to prove that all human are evil, the King is forced to make the decision. Can it be that some humans will need to take care of the children, the elderly, and their animals? What can be done to those that wear the vice of evil? Only those in the Cloud know.

The Cloud proved to be a witty take on the pinnacle of human beings. Ms. Hockley's story proves that ill will and treachery exist in some of the most pure settings. With its clever symbolism and sarcastic overtones, The Cloud proved to be a fun read. I have read and written many short stories, but The Cloud was truly unique. In a humorous and entertaining manner, this story helps delve into the problems that are created by being human. It also takes a look at the creatures that judge humanity. The characters that Ms. Hockley created are not only believable, but they are also very entertaining. I think The Cloud is a story that is universally relevant.
