Meet Tucker. He’s just your all-round good guy, living in Wyoming with his horse, Snort, and dog, Rex. His world gets turned upside down when Elizabeth Vaughan comes to his town to work on an article. In The Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance by Clark Hayes and Kathleen McFall, you get to make the trip with them as they adventure in both New York and Wyoming. Elizabeth, unbeknownst to her, carries ancient vampiric blood in her veins. Julian, a vampire, knew this and turned her with a scheme in mind. Lazarus, Julian’s sworn enemy, has been keeping an eye on Elizabeth since she was born. With both vampire kings vying for Elizabeth’s favor, chaos is bound to ensue. Will Lazarus win or will Julian win Elizabeth’s favor?
The Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance by Clark Hayes and Kathleen McFall mixes two distinctly different genres of fiction effortlessly by using first person narratives. When you read Tucker’s chapters, you are immersed in the down home feeling of western, including Tucker’s and other characters’ speech patterns. In addition to this, both of Tucker’s animal companions aren’t just there, which happens with a lot of novels; they are also given quirky personalities. In Elizabeth’s world, the vampiric world unfurls in a theatrical fashion with decadence beyond imagination. When the two of them unite, adventure, and find love, the magic between them lassoed me and sank their fangs into me at the same time.
