In The Crew by Dani Donari, Reese’s close friend, Janae, had been murdered. While searching for Janae’s killer, Reese was kidnapped in the process. The kidnapper cuts both of Reese’s wrists before tossing her into the deep end of a swimming pool. Reese was rescued by Detective Alan Brenner, who had encouraged her to become a cop and helped her move up to detective. As a detective with the New Orleans Police Department, Reese was partnering with Alan. Reese’s first major case involved a home invasion in one of New Orleans's most affluent neighborhoods. A group of four or five men and a woman used the alarm codes they obtained in advance to gain access to the residences. Meanwhile, in a less affluent area, an intruder broke into the homes of a boy and an elderly woman, leading to their shooting. Reese and Al need to figure out if there is a connection between these incidents.

Dani Donari's The Crew begins with intense action and maintains a high energy level. The story is fast-paced and packed with events. I was captivated from start to finish and could not turn the pages fast enough. With the unexpected twists, it was tough to predict what would happen next. The characters felt authentic and relatable. The events were vividly described, making it easy to picture them in my mind. The writing style was captivating, allowing me to immerse myself in Reese and Alan’s investigation. This story was exceptionally well-written and held my attention the entire time. I appreciated the way the story concluded, which was appropriate considering all that transpired. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and look forward to delving into more of Reese’s detective adventures.
