In The Dark Side of Honor by S.T. Phillips, two worlds collide. In Belize, drug kingpin Jorge Deperalta - aka The Shark - ran his multi-billion dollar empire trafficking cocaine and literally feeding traitors to the four tiger sharks contained on his compound. Recently, his submarines containing the contraband have been seized. So Deperalta plans to come to the US to discuss joining forces with his arch rival Navarro. But his plans are altered when he learns that Waverly, a former cop, has been talking to his nephew about the dead woman found 20 years ago, burned beyond recognition and missing her teeth. In Washington DC, investigator Jack Dublin has been commissioned by his father, CEO of WISE, to find his mother's real killer. But his mother's dentist, Dr. Guzman, was found dead and Waverly, a former cop and associate of Deperalta, barely remembers the case. Will Jack's search for the truth unravel a 20-year-old CIA cover up?

I loved this action-packed thriller. The black cover and blood-red graphic letters were wonderfully menacing. Phillips is a Deputy Sheriff and Criminal Investigator and his firsthand knowledge of police procedures is evident. The plot immediately captured my attention. The diverse characters were genuine and complex. I could easily imagine Short Stack, Luisa, Julio, and Archibald Prescott. The alternate settings of Belize and Washington DC added to the drama. The Dark Side of Honor is highly recommended.
