The Devil in Fine Print by Jhani Mills is a high-octane blend of conspiracy, science fiction, and thriller. Elias Maddox is a bestselling author who finds his life flipped upside down when the plot of his latest novel turns out to be a little too real. Across the globe, his twin brother Drake is caught in a scientific discovery that draws the attention of the Order of Thael, a shadowy cabal manipulating technology behind the scenes. As the twins scramble to reveal the truth and stay alive, they uncover a web of hidden agendas and impossible choices that could shape the fate of humanity.
Author Jhani Mills has a real gift for suspense, and nails the tension from page one to keep you hooked. I had a blast piecing together the layers of conspiracy as the story unfolded. The structure keeps things interesting and logical, but without ever giving away too much too soon. The dynamic between Elias and Drake gives the story a grounded emotional core, and I liked how the contrast of one being a wordsmith and the other a scientist played into the unfolding mystery. There’s a cinematic quality to the writing that makes every chase and revelation feel big, but the book doesn’t sacrifice character depth for spectacle. If you love speculative thrillers that flirt with real-world fears (like surveillance, tech overreach, and secret societies), this is your jam. Mills has a grand vision for this series, and I’m excited to see where it goes next. Overall, The Devil in Fine Print is a gripping, high-concept debut that’s perfect for fans of fast-paced thrillers with brains and bite, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
