A murderer is doing away with an archaeological team in the exciting murder mystery, The Dig (The Blackwell Files Book 9) by Steven Freeman. Underneath the foundation of the Basilica of Our Lady Zapopan in Guadalajara, lay the undiscovered ancient temple dedicated to the Aztec god, Mictlantecuhtli. The Basilica, which dates back to the Spanish conquest, was damaged when it was rocked by an earthquake. The quake crumbled the sanctuary's floor, revealing the ancient sacred space hidden beneath church's structure. An archaeological team already working close by are thrilled with the discovery and immediately begin to excavate it. Unfortunately, soon after the new excavation starts, two of the archaeologists working at the site are murdered, and a third disappears. Concerned that the murders and the abduction may have unfavorable international consequences, the NSA has requested that their operatives be allowed to investigate alongside the Mexican authorities. Alton, Mallory, and David Dunlow, another agent, fly to Mexico to help solve the murders and protect the remaining archaeologists. Who is behind the killings? Is it the local drug cartel or is the missing team member responsible?

Danger and intrigue shadow Alton and Mallory as they risk their lives to find a killer in the exciting murder mystery novel, The Dig (The Blackwell Files Book 9) by Steven Freeman. This fascinating fiction tale is set in a centuries-old region of a Mexican city and a ceremonial chamber of the Aztec mythological ruler of the underworld. Incorporating historical facts into the plot gives the story a unique twist and will thrill fans of adventure novels. Although this is the ninth in The Blackwell Files adventures, it is a fabulous standalone book. I have never read any of their previous exploits, but not once did I get lost or confused while reading. It is a captivating murder mystery novel that will not fail to entertain those who love intrigue mixed with history.
