Cienna Collins' novel The Disappearing Season tells the story of Georgia Wright, who found the courage to leave an abusive relationship. Upon spotting a job center, Georgia inquired about available job opportunities. Fortunately, Georgia quickly found a six-week nannying contract with accommodation, which she saw as the perfect opportunity to escape from her abuser, Andreas. Her new live-in job, looking after her employer Daniel's daughter, Reilly, seemed like a haven. However, when Georgia started receiving messages from Andreas, she suspected that he had managed to track her down. As Cyclone Yasi approached, the residents were advised to seek shelter in a central location. Along with Reilly and her friend, Georgia was taken by surprise when Andreas appeared at the house. Can Georgia survive the cyclone and find a way to get away from Andreas?
Cienna Collins' The Disappearing Season captivated me from beginning to end. The story was engaging, and the chapters seamlessly flowed together. The twists and turns had me guessing until the end. Some moments were vividly described, adding depth to the plot. The humor throughout the story provided a welcome break from the tension surrounding Georgia's predicament and fear. The alternating chapters between Georgia's present and her past with Andreas shed light on her fears of being tracked down. The variety of characters each brought something unique to the narrative. The writing was superb, and I found this book to be even better than I had anticipated. I enjoyed reading this story and, hopefully, there will be a sequel.
