The Dragon Sanctuary by Diane Martin revolves around two children and a magical adventure of a lifetime. Max and his little sister, Birdie, discover a young dragon that needs their help to survive. Their already complicated lives are about to become a whole lot more complex. Guided by the words of a song their mother taught them, the siblings agree to find the mythical Dragon Sanctuary, a haven for Char, their new friend. Soon enough, their daring adventure becomes a quest for survival. Two dangerous men begin chasing after them, intending to capture Char to satisfy their own agendas. The siblings also face unexpected tests and trials along the way. Fortunately, Max, Birdie, and Char encounter an ally, Julianna, who agrees to help them on their quest. Will the group find the Dragon Sanctuary and reunite Char with his kind?
The Dragon Sanctuary is a fast-paced adventure packed with fantasy, action, humor, and suspense. Diane Martin does an incredible job of depicting the close-knit sibling connection between Max and Birdie. As central characters in the story, they grow tremendously throughout their journey. Max's greatest fear is not keeping Birdie safe. But having demonstrated substantial courage while confronting the unknown dangers around them, Max shows that he has the makings of a brave and tenacious leader. Similarly, Birdie's newfound abilities as an Animage instill a sense of confidence and purpose in her that she has never had before. Her tender and loyal bond with Char is wonderfully explored from beginning to end. If you enjoy fantasy filled with compelling characters and an unforgettable adventure, this book is worth exploring.
