Ari, Bri, and little Lily are three sisters who discover that they aren’t like normal children. Each girl has a special power which they are just learning to use. It started one night while they were asleep. Ari had a red ray of strength, Bri had purple for wisdom and little Lily had pink for beauty. When they woke up the next morning, the girls believed that it was all a dream. Soon though, things began to happen around the sisters that made their nighttime visions a reality. Bri begins to develop clairaudience, which is the ability to hear others' thoughts. She also soon discovers that she’s sensitive to noise. Lily has the power to make plants grow as their mother soon found out when they planted eucalyptus trees. The mother decides to keep what she’s seen a secret so the girls can continue to grow up normally but little does she know, their powers are only just starting to develop.
I thought The ElleRays was a fun and enjoyable kids' story. It felt like reading a superhero origin story from the comics. The characters are well thought out and likable, with distinct personalities. Each sister has a unique power that is theirs alone. I absolutely loved the illustrations for this book. The images really capture the story and grab young readers' attention with their bright colors and vivid scenes. Overall, I feel that authors Cherelle and Amari Yarbrough did an excellent job with this children’s book. It will definitely keep youngsters reading. Also, I look forward to reading more about these special sisters as their powers grow.
