The Final Crossing: A Tale of Self-Discovery and Adventure by Vince Santoro tells the story of Nenshi, a slave in ancient Egypt. The story begins as he builds up the courage to ask his master to free him. We see the struggle within as he ponders what it means to be a free man. As fate has it, he meets a beautiful Egyptian woman, Sia, and falls in love – hastening the need to be freed from servitude. Unfortunately, this is not granted soon enough. Nenshi finds himself arrested, tried, and sent to the Nubian mines to serve his sentence as a slave that committed a crime against Sia’s father. We follow Nenshi as he goes further into the desert, taking his chance to escape and build a new life from scratch while being a fugitive on the run.
Vince Santoro takes us back to ancient Egypt in this brave and adventurous story of a slave seeking freedom. The Final Crossing asks some philosophical questions such as what it means to be truly free, what is the human spirit, and what it means to believe in a god? I enjoyed the story of Nenshi and his pursuit of freedom and love. I loved the exploration of different ancient cities and civilizations. I could tell that Santoro has a keen interest in ancient Egypt, as he skillfully described mythology and the beautiful landscapes. This story took me back in time and opened my mind to the wonder of being a human being. It’s a valiant and fulfilling story sure to inspire and warm the heart.
