Being a leader can take on several forms but the ultimate goal is to guide or manage a group of individuals for a particular purpose, which can be either on a short or a long term basis. In this easy to read book, The Four Hats of Leadership: Be Who Your People Need You to Be by Drake Taylor, you will learn about the four hats that a leader can wear from farmer, drill instructor and psychologist to self-care. At various stages of our lives, we will wear different hats so it's important to read this book to gauge where you are and when it is necessary to embrace the hats that you are lacking. Not only will you learn the crucial need for wearing these four different hats but there is a Leadership Library to help you along your journey. The Library displays inspirational quotes to encourage your team or yourself, and a questionnaire designed to learn about your team members. This book has everything that you need to be a successful leader.
I enjoyed reading this book because it's ideal for anyone, whether you are a beginner or need to sharpen your leadership skills. While leading can be challenging it can also be extremely rewarding. Drake clearly rolls out the process of leadership of the four hats, whether it's the farmer in how he cultivates the crops, the drill instructor when he needs to instill discipline or tough love, the hat of the psychologist where building trust and confidence is essential, or to wear the hat of self-care because no one can take better care of you than you. "The perfect man of old looked after himself first before looking to help others.” Chuang Tzu. Enjoy!
