In The Friendship Breakup by Annie Cathryn, Fallon Monroe worries about menopause, her upcoming fortieth birthday, and her best friend, Beatrice. In addition to her current struggles within her friend group, she decides to research a part of her past she’s kept a secret from almost everyone. Fallon navigates her marriage and parenthood, but she has less time for her friends as she tries to develop her chocolate business. She worries she may have upset Beatrice, but after talking with some other moms in her group, she realizes the rift in their friendship may go deeper.
Annie Cathryn delivers a delightful story with true ups and downs, strong females, and relatable characters. After reading it, you will feel like you know Fallon and her friends. You may even see yourself reflected in the characters as topics of rejection and toxicity are addressed. Full of empowerment, forgiveness, and lessons in assertiveness and self-care, the story is a must-read for any caregiver struggling to find a balance while leaving room for new and developing friendships. Cathryn develops her characters by seamlessly weaving their difficulties into the story until a hilariously dramatic explosion. The novel illustrates seasonal and lifelong friendships and the power of bonding over chocolate or crushed groceries. It’s easy to see the author’s experience with friendship as her acknowledgments are full of beautiful associations. The Friendship Breakup may leave you reevaluating your friendships and counting your supportive connections as blessings!
