Who better to read her own tale than author Katrina Kenison. She deftly takes us on a journey into her life. We walk by her side through the natural changes of life. We watch as her family grows up.

Most women will relate to Kenison’s story. I have three grown children and went through similar life changes. I remember when my children started school I felt lost without their tiny bodies in the house. The next big adjustment was when they left for college. After that came grandparenthood. Change does not come easily and I struggled against each one. Once I adjusted I settled in and I enjoyed it.

There are so many ways I can relate to this book. Kenison tells of wanting a simpler life, uprooting her family and moving from Boston to New Hampshire. She tells of falling in love with a dilapidated cabin on 80 acres. My husband and I dreamed of raising our children on a farm. We purchased 70 acres, cleared it, built a home, dug several ponds and enjoy what we consider the idyllic life. Kenison has a view of the mountains; we have a view of rolling hills. Life is simpler, life is peaceful, and life is what we make it.
Kenison finds her favorite times are the ordinary ones. I smiled as she discusses walking into town for a cup of tea. Refinishing the doors of the house brings great satisfaction. Cooking a meal for someone else brought a sense of purpose.

Readers are there as the Kenison family struggles to build a house on a one family income. They come to understand that a house is just a house, they as a family will make it a home.

Katrina Kenison is offering readers a gift. One that I hope many will accept. The gift is the lessons she learned on slowing down and enjoying life. Her book is well written and women will relate to it. I found listening to An Ordinary Gift to be relaxing and rather peaceful. We all need to slow down and enjoy The Gift Of An Ordinary Day.
