The Green Alliance is a work of fiction in the action, adventure and conspiracy sub-genres, and was penned by author Andrew J. Rafkin. The latest installment in the Orca series, the work is aimed at adult readers but does not contain any graphic content. The book is set in a (hopefully) fictional version of 2022, in which political tensions between the USA and China are at breaking point and eco-terrorists threaten to send the world back into an ice age. As the effects of an attempt to reverse global warming are felt world-wide, China seizes the opportunity to take back Taiwan and control the South China Sea. In the ensuing escalation, World War Three finally begins.
Pitting the ORCA team against incredible odds at the beginning of a global war, you can be sure that there’s much action, adventure, plotting, suspense, and thrills to be had in this excellent novel. Author Andrew J. Rafkin gives plenty of background on ORCA for newcomers to the group, which helped me to contextualize this story and the amazing skills that the security forces have in order to help the USA in their hour of need. I found the dialogue very engaging and fast-paced, which helps to move us through more complex elements of the plot and adds to the development of the cast of characters. Though this is very much an engaging big picture war novel, small character details reveal the human struggle behind the war machines too. Overall, The Green Alliance is a highly engaging and recommended read.
