The Grim Seekers is a work of fiction in the fantasy genre and serves as the first book in the Dead Path Chronicles series. It is suitable for all ages and was penned by Richard A. Valicek. Set in the fantastical world of Alamptria, the book follows members of the royal family who have been given weapons forged in magic to fight back against the growing menace of vampires in the realm. As Lord Makoor makes his moves against Caprius and his brothers, the political landscape begins to shift and war starts looming over the entire planet.
There’s enormous satisfaction to be found in reading works of fantasy where the author's ambition has been matched by a high level of skill, where they have spun an epic yarn that manages to remain accessible and engaging the entire way through. The Grim Seekers is such a book, and I’m excited to read the future installments in the series. A large cast of well-considered and deep characters each go on story arcs that weave between each other seamlessly to create a work of prose that feels like a tapestry chronicling a major period in the history of a huge and ancient civilization. The lore and world-building are excellent and consistent, and the presentation of the familiar menace of vampires feels fresh and exciting. Richard A. Valicek has launched this new series with an outstanding first installment, and I’d happily recommend it to fans of epic fantasy tales.
