Author Biography

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I don't even know if I want to grow up.
My ideas for writing come from the stuff I enjoy doing.
As a kid I used the countryside as my personal playground. We built carts and raced them down the hills, we tried to see who could ride their bike highest up the steep scree slopes. We fell off, made repairs to our bikes and ourselves and did it again.

Then in my engineering days we would try out new ideas some worked, some really didn't and there were near misses, but we put it right and moved forward, and had fun doing it.
Now I make "stuff" as my wife calls it. It might be artwork or rebuilding motorbikes, writing my novels or tinkering with my classic car—but I love it!

I also love the countryside and nature—I like to walk it and live it, which is handy 'cos so does my little dog who I call Poppet.
I hope all of this comes through in my books.

The Hidden City of Chelldrah-ham: War of Chaos (Volume 2) by Stephan von Clinkerhoffen is a young adult fantasy about friends Stig, Arn, and Baits. They are on a very important mission to Polandrea, to decide if the Bach creatures are a danger to the town of Chelldrah-ham. However, Stig plans on rescuing his other friend, Meg, who is also in the area of Polandrea. But he must learn the Bach's secrets if he wants to rescue Meg. Meanwhile, Baits is also on a secondary mission: to find signs of the Guard of Old's missing leader, Lillet. When the three friends discover what seems like recent battles, Chelldrah-ham begins preparations for war. The three friends use their inventions and their bond of friendship to survive an incredible journey through a dark and dangerous land.

The Hidden City of Chelldrah-ham is a very fun young adult fantasy that explores friendship. I really enjoyed the characters of Stig, Arn, and Baits, and how the three relied on each other to survive on their journey. I was particularly impressed with the way Stephan von Clinkerhoffen used the friendship of Meg to move the plot forward and give the other characters, especially Stig, a deep investment within this story. It is an investment that fantasy readers will have as well, since The Hidden City of Chelldrah-ham is a fun, action-filled adventure that is sure to please. There are incredible weapons, mystical creatures, and a nice touch of fantasy inspired artwork to make this story magical.

Editorial Review

"The background details pay off in this fast-paced sequel. Clinkerhoffen blends imaginative flora … and fauna … with the hero’s love of machinery and problem-solving skills.

An engaging book for kids, with a particular interest for the budding mechanic…"—Kirkus Reviews
