The Holy Lizard! by David Lane is an entertaining and charming Christian picture book for children that proves how attending church can be fun. Every Sunday, a little girl and her friends attend church. Before the service begins, they like to sneak off to see the lizards. The lizards love sitting in the sun. The little girl is fascinated with them. She knows many things about them and likes to share all the information she learns with her friends. Between lizards like Six-Lined Racerunner, Brown Anole, Coal Skink, or Slender Glass Lizard, her favorite is Green Anole. One Sunday, when the little girl notices a Green Anole looking sick, she picks it up and puts it in her coat pocket to treat it later, after the service. Little does she know that bringing a little lizard into the church might lead to chaos, a miracle, or even both.
The Holy Lizard! by David Lane is fun to read aloud, providing an excellent opportunity to talk to kids about how God works in mysterious ways and how even a little lizard can bring extra energy to a church service. Like the best books for young readers, this one combines beautiful and hilarious illustrations by Caleb McBee with an elegantly written story that offers information on lizards to enjoy with the whole family. Children will laugh at the little girl's attempts to catch the lizard and the chaos she provoked. This adorable book will appeal to young readers who love wild creatures, especially ones that fit into their pockets.
