In her memoir The Hurricane Within: Beyond the Storm, Ashlee Leppert recounts her early life in Sterling Heights, Michigan, encompassing friendships, love, and loss. It is this loss that prompted her questions of faith, and to explore Christianity through conversations with a coworker. Leppert talks about a horrific assault at nineteen, which she kept a secret for years. Once she was able to share it, her recovery began. She joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where she faced physical illness and more spiritual uncertainty, but eventually her commitment to faith and prayer was restored. Upon retirement, she RV'd across the United States with her dog, where her encounters during her travels strengthened her belief in divine timing and unconditional love, including the full circle of a written desire from her past.
Ashlee Leppert’s The Hurricane Within: Beyond the Storm is an inspiring memoir that radiates hope, warmth, and the beauty of human connection. Leppert invites readers into her world with honesty and a massive amount of courage with what she shares. Her return home to family, the tender moments with her mother and sister, and the quiet, comforting presence of her father, even after his passing, are heartening. I like how she really leans into faith and the small miracles that punctuate her everyday life. Leppert’s journeys across the country are filled with equal parts joy, discovery, and the simple pleasures of nature and companionship. And, of course, her memoir is made even better with a pup named Mandi Pants. Her outlook and finding love are the ultimate proof that the possibility of renewal can happen in the most unexpected places.
