Despite past relationships, James is an adventurous bachelor from Canada approaching forty with no partner to answer to. He is well-traveled and a lawyer who is quite accomplished. One day, he decides to go on a sea voyage, and after waiting for some time, he gets a place in a Dutch-based vessel that also carries paying crew around the world. Mirriam is from Zambia, and growing up, she had to deal with stereotypes that discriminated and told her what a girl can or cannot do. Mirriam is determined, and with the encouragement of the few available female teachers, she completes her education and moves to the city. She becomes a part-time college student and works in a restaurant until she is employed by some Japanese engineers. Later on, she relocates to South Africa, where she eventually meets James. How will things turn out in The Illogical Adventure by James Macduff and Mirriam Mweemba?

Memoirs can be boring, but not The Illogical Adventure by James Macduff and Mirriam Mweemba. You can’t put it down once you start reading. This wonderfully written work takes one on an endless adventure as James and Mirriam meticulously describe their lives. The easy-to-understand language used makes the work accessible to all readers. I loved the issues brought to light, such as how women face various challenges in achieving their goals in a male-dominated society. This thought-provoking work also gets one thinking about professional and social issues and how one can still pursue their career without giving up their passions and social life. This was an amazing read, and I look forward to reading more by James and Mirriam.
