I clearly remember the first time I heard about JD.com or Jingdong as it is called in China. I was relatively new to China and wanted to buy a good laptop computer. Everyone has heard all the references to poor quality in China, but I knew a secret. The Chinese people know the quality brands. One of my students introduced me to the Jingdong website and to a laptop company I had never heard of. I still have that laptop. I still shop at Jingdong. And that student is still my good friend. I read The JD.com Story by Li Zhigang because I have a good history with this company and I wanted to know more about it. Mr. Li paints a wonderful picture of a great success story that is little known outside of China. I have a feeling that this is about to change. This book will help that happen.

The JD.com Story is well written, logically organized, and - most importantly - it is an exciting story with interesting characters, in and of itself. You don’t really have to make anything up. You just need to tell it well, and Li Zhigang tells it very well indeed. He takes us behind the scenes of an economic explosion that some people think is just getting started. JD.com plays a huge role in the Chinese economic miracle, though other players, like Alibaba, seem to grab the lion’s share of the spotlight. If you are at all curious about business in China, this is a great book to start with.
