The Legacy of Jaarqub the Atlantean by Dr Philip Jamieson is an intriguing and timely work of speculative fiction. Anthropologist Jamie Tawnhill is ambitious, but also the stereotypical absent-minded professor. On a visit to a research center on a volcanic island, he has an experience that transforms him from a career-driven academic to a seeker of his spiritual identity and purpose. He is helped by his friends: Tiana, who is a childhood friend and a Reiki master; Sarah, who has an uncompromising scientific outlook; and Paul, an animal welfare lawyer with a strong interest in spirituality. They search for answers in stories of the lost world of Lemuria, the writings of Edgar Cayce, in dreams, and past lives. The investigation leads them to a message from Atlantis about the need for human unity with animals and nature as a necessity for survival. But will the message be heard?
The Legacy of Jaarqub the Atlantean is a sophisticated exploration of questions about the relationship of humans with animals and nature that many readers may have asked themselves. Setting the quest in a contemporary research and spiritual setting highlights the urgency of the answers. The characters have depth and individuality, and their wide-ranging knowledge and discussions are a fascinating guide to many different worlds -- indigenous cultures, shamanism, archeology, spirituality, animal communication, and more. Dr Philip Jamieson has included a list of the sources of inspiration for his story, for those who want to learn more. Readers who enjoy stories of spiritual quests, archeological mysteries, and the connection between humans and animals will find it a rewarding read.
