In The Library: Victorian Virtues Book 3 by Edwina Kiernan, Irene uses books to escape the fear she experiences at home. It’s the 1850s in England, and news spreads across the village of Lindenfell that they may soon get their own public library. Irene clings to the possibility of finally finding a safe place where she can breathe freely and relax. At the same time, Solomon, the son of the local chemist, has his own struggles. They slowly become interested in each other. Through quiet moments and small conversations, Irene and Solomon begin to form a connection, but both worry that their private burdens could threaten any chance of a future together. Will the library ever become a reality? And will Solomon and Irene be able to move past their troubles to build a life side by side?

The Library by Edwina Kiernan is a heartfelt historical romance that’s very difficult to put down. I quickly became invested in Irene's and Solomon’s lives and felt a deep empathy for her situation. The writing is warm and personal, with the tension building naturally through quiet moments and meaningful conversations rather than constant dramatic events. I also appreciated how books are such an important symbol throughout the story. Irene’s love of reading made many scenes feel relatable and, in a way, comforting. The pacing is steady, with chapters that flow smoothly, making it easy to keep reading “just one more page.” Fans of Christian historical romance and emotionally layered love stories will enjoy this book. This is a rewarding read that balances hardship, hope, faith, and romance in a memorable way.
